About Us

Diagnosis of breast cancer is a disturbing experience for any woman and no two individuals will react to it in the same way. Many women describe feelings of shock, anger or anxiety. ‘Up days’ and ‘down days’ are not unusual and these changes can go on for some time. It can take a year or more to come to terms, physically and emotionally, with what has happened. The experience of breast cancer will have an impact not only on the life of the patient, but also on her, or his, relatives and friends.

Cancerkin was set up in 1987 as the first hospital-based, dedicated breast cancer charity in the UK, concerned with treatment, supportive care, education and research. ‘Treat the patient, not just the cancer’ is its philosophy. The name ‘Cancerkin’ reflects concern also with the well being of the patient’s family and friends and their needs are served in a variety of ways.

Cancerkin is a registered charity (no. 1085517) and its services are free of charge, regardless of where the patient happens to be treated. The charity receives no statutory funding but depends entirely on voluntary support.

The Centre is open Monday to Friday, 9 till 5, so please call in for more information, should you be in the area. You will find us at the Cancerkin Centre, Royal Free Hospital, Pond Street, London NW3 2QG .

OTHER TESTIMONIALS
“When you came to see me nearly a year ago, I was very receptive to your offers of help. But I could have no idea how much Cancerkin would do for me over this difficult year.”
