Taking Care of your Arm

A small minority of people who have been treated for breast cancer might, at some time, develop lyphoedema - swelling of the arm.

Experience has shown that patients who observe a few simple, common sense guidelines can do much to reduce the already small risk. Patients who observe a few simple, common sense guidelines can do much to further reduce the small risk.  Information on avoiding lymphoedema and on managing the problem is available by clicking the links.

In the unlikely event of being affected, patients may be referred by their hospital consultant for specialist treatment at the Cancerkin Lymphoedema Clinic.

Referral to the Lymphoedema Clinic is by hospital specialist referral only. The referral form can be downloaded here but has to be completed and signed by your hospital consultant.

“When you came to see me nearly a year ago, I was very receptive to your offers of help. But I could have no idea how much Cancerkin would do for me over this difficult year.”
