Dr Lucy Side is Consultant in Clinical Genetics and Lead for Cancer Genetics at North East Thames Regional Genetics Service (Great Ormond Street Hospital) and Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant, Institute for Women’s Health, UCL.
Dr Side qualified in medicine from the University of Bristol 1988. She was awarded the MRCP (UK) in 1991. She carried out her MD thesis at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF). She trained in Clinical Genetics in Oxford, where she was appointed Consultant in Clinical Genetics in 2005. She took up her post at the North East Thames Regional Genetics Service and UCL in December 2008.
She is on the steering committee of the UK Cancer Genetics meeting. She is a member of the London Genetics Consortium advising on Breast Screening services for women with a family history.
Her clinical interests include hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and colorectal cancer syndromes, the neurofibromatoses and von Hippel Lindau disease. She is involved in running the Familial Cancer Clinic at UCL for women with familial gynaecological cancers. Her research interests include developing effective family history taking in primary care setting, and screening strategies for women with gynaecological cancer predispositions.
