Events and Development Manager
Ellie joined Cancerkin in June 2015 from an education charity based in South London where she worked as a logistics coordinator. She graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2014 with a BA Hons (2:1) in International Development. At university Ellie won a research grant which enabled her to travel to Sierra Leone for 4 weeks during the summer of 2012. This amazing opportunity allowed her to undertake research on her dissertation which focused on how the corrupt Education system within Sierra Leone had stunted the sectors growth.
Whilst at university Ellie also founded a social enterprise called TAPE (Trading arm promoting enterprise.) Its aim was support small scale producers in Kenya, India and Sierra Leone to build trading links with the UK. The profits from these links would then go back into the communities who produced the items. As part of her role Ellie set up market research sessions, events to raise capital for the venture and organised the selling of the products produced.
Traveling is also a great passion of Ellie’s having recently returning from a trip to Vietnam she has now been to 16 different nations. Cooking is also something Ellie very much enjoys and likes to recreate recipes from her travels around the world for friends and family.
