Dr Geoffrey Lloyd

Dr Geoffrey Lloyd is a psychiatrist in private practice, a visiting consultant at Priory Hospital, North London and an emeritus consultant at the Royal Free Hospital, London. He was previously consultant in liaison psychiatry at the Royal Free Hospital. He has been a medical advisor to Cancerkin since 1998 and a Trustee since 2005.

He graduated in medicine from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge and Westminster Medical School, University of London. His junior posts in psychiatry were at the Maudsley Hospital, the Institute of Psychiatry and King’s College Hospital Medical School where he undertook research leading to the degrees of Master of Philosophy awarded by the University of London and Doctor of Medicine awarded by the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.

He is the author of Textbook of General Hospital Psychiatry, published by Churchill Livingston in 1991, and co-editor (with Professor Elspeth Guthrie) of Handbook of Liaison Psychiatry, which was awarded First Prize in the mental health category at the British Medical Association Book Awards, 2008.

His previous positions include: President of the Section of Psychiatry, Royal Society of Medicine, Chairman of the Liaison Psychiatry Faculty and member of Council, Royal College of Psychiatrists, Editor of the Journal of Psychosomatic Research and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee and Associate Medical Director at the Royal Free Hospital. He established and chaired the clinical ethics committee at the Royal Free. He is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, a Fellow of the Medical Society of London, a member of the Harveian Society and the Chelsea Clinical Society. His leisure interests include golf, skiing, bridge and watching rugby football.
