Trustee Cancerkin since October 2003 and Volunteer Visitor coordinator since 1990. In 1976 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, at the age of 29, and had a lumpectomy followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy. I then became pregnant and 3 months after the birth of our daughter was again diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy with reconstruction. I was very aware at the time that there was very little support for breast cancer patients, especially for young patients like me, so when I read about Cancerkin and heard that they were interested in recruiting volunteers, I immediately applied and have been involved ever since. I think the work we do is very important.

I was again diagnosed with breast cancer 7 years ago, 20 years after the initial diagnoses and had another mastectomy and reconstruction. My association with Cancerkin definitely helped me through this difficult time and made me even more determined that Cancerkin should flourish. My three children are now all married and I have 7 grandchildren, with another due in April 2009!
