Chairman of the Trustees since 2000. Santilal Parbhoo was born in and completed his undergraduate training in Cape Town. He came to advance his surgical training as a British Council Scholar in the United Kingdom between 1962 and 1964 and then as a surgical trainee in Belfast, London, Bristol and Leuven. In 1974 he was appointed Consultant Surgeon and Senior Lecturer and was Chairman of the Division of Surgery at the Royal Free Hospital (1987-1989) and Chairman of the Board of Surgical Studies (1984-1991) He is a founder member of the Ludwig International Breast Cancer Study Group, a NATO International Research Travelling Fellow and was a member of various committees associated with the UK Breast Screening Programme. He is a member of the executive committee of the International Society of Lymphology and a member of the British Lymphology Society. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the International Society of Lymphology, Europa Donna UK Forum and Cancerkin. He was instrumental in developing the multi-disciplinary Royal Free Hospital Breast Unit from 1978. In 1986 he founded and co-developed Cancerkin – an internationally recognised Breast Patients Support Service and established the first dedicated Lymphoedema Clinic for breast cancer patients in the UK. At various times he has been visiting Professor to the Universities of Milan, Amman, Cairo, Tanta, Cape Town and the Gaslini Institute, Genoa.
His research interests and publications have included the following topics: – diagnosis of breast cancer, bone metastases, biology of breast cancer, lymphoedema, breast conservation surgery, imaging recurrent breast cancer, sentinel lymph node biopsy, understanding the normal breast His breast practice is international. He is currently Lead Consultant Breast Surgeon at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth and President of Cancerkin.
