Cancerkin Sponsored Hyde Park Walk
On Sunday 17th June 2001, nearly 200 walkers, their families and friends undertook a 10km sponsored walk around the Serpentine in Hyde Park . The aim was to raise £20,000 towards Cancerkin 's 'Building For Life' Appeal for the extension and refurbishment of the Cancerkin centre. However, the enthusiasm and generosity of walkers and sponsors succeeded in raising more than double the original target. A great success and fun day were enjoyed by all.
"Jesus, My Boy"
Tom Conti's one-man show provided a memorable and highly enjoyable pre-Christmas afternoon for the audience in the Peter Samuel Hall at the Royal Free Hospital on 16 th December. Tom, a long-time Patron of Cancerkin , once more donated his services to benefit the charity. The afternoon ended with a note of seasonal cheer with a glass of Bucks Fizz and mince pies.
"The Women"
Clare Booth Luce's witty play satirising the social range of New York women in the 1920s was given a special one night performance at the Old Vic on 28th October 2001 in aid jointly of Cancerkin and CancerBacup.
The cast list, which read like a who's who of the leading ladies of the theatre, included Diana Rigg, Greta Scaatchi, Janet Suzman, Amanda Holden, Ruthie Henshall, Jemma Redgrave, Phyllida Law. Directed by Olivier award-winner Jude Kelly and with so many celebrities in the audience, it was certainly a star-studded night, with a stunning post-performance party catered by Mosimann.
