The second biennial Cancerkin Hyde Park Walk on Sunday, 22nd June raised a fabulous £46,000 – more than double the total amount raised in 2001. Every walker made a fantastic effort to ask for and collect sponsorship from their families, friends and colleagues. Thanks to them all and not least to Cancerkin’s chairman, Mr Santilal Parbhoo who personally raised more than £15,000 of generous sponsorship by his many patients. Despite an unpromising deluge just prior to the start, a great day was had by all! (The top picture shows John Marshall MP opening the walk.)
City Solicitors Denton Wilde Sapte adopted Cancerkin for support by their charity committee and donated more than £13,500 resulting from their in-house social events. This was an important outcome of a Business Breakfast organised by Gwenllian Rhys (of Networking Culture Limited) which brought together 40 guests from assorted business and professional backgrounds, to introduce them to Cancerkin .
Sir Sydney and Lady Lipworth opened their beautiful London house once again for Cancerkin as the venue for a Celebrity Recital on 13th November, by the Brazilian pianist, Cristina Ortiz. 180 guests were treated to a passionate and colourful performance of works by Schumann, Granados, Villa-Lobos, Ravel and Chopin. Ms Ortiz (pictured) generously donated her performance as a gift to Cancerkin and the evening raised over £43,000.
