Without doubt, the highlight of the year had to be the Gala Concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London, on 23rd September. A packed house for the opening night of the Philharmonia Orchestra’s 2004 autumn/winter season enjoyed an unforgettable musical experience with Alfred Brendel as soloist and the conductor, Christoph von Dohnanyi, whose 75th birthday was marked by this special concert. Guests enjoyed a pre-concert champagne reception and many attended the wonderful celebratory dinner afterwards, along with members of the orchestra and many other leading musicians. Dr Lotte Newman chaired the Gala which netted over £50,000 for Cancerkin.
